2020 Blackjack Block 6 Shiraz
Blackjack Vineyards is situated on an easterly slope, in the old Apple and Pear growing district of the Harcourt Valley on the foothills of Mt.Alexander. Although just south of Bendigo, the climate is considerably cooler, and normally blessed with “Indian Summer” autumns – cool night and warm clear day- allowing the grapes to slowly ripen. The soil is mostly very old, and not overly fertile, granitic soils. The vineyard is hand pruned and hand-harvested. The Block 6 Shiraz block was planted in 1998.
The Wine

Palate is is full and gernerous, dark berry and plum, cinnamon and spice. A savouriness adds complexity and depth
Fine grape and French oak tannins add backbone to an extended and elegant finish.
Delicious with a classic veal Osso Bucco
Suggested cellaring: 4-10 years
Rob Geddes The Gold Book: 95 pts
" Has loads of complexity from the vineyar, blueberry and fresh thyme fruit aromas.with the oak tucked in behind the fruit... refined silky shiraz berry fruits...." www.thegoldbook.com.au
WineFront Campbell Mattison 93+
It’s bold, it’s tannic, it’s balanced and it’s quite beautiful. This is a full-bodied Australian red wine, done very well. It offers blackberry and plum, eucalypt and earth, twigs and spice notes – with a gentle veneer of smoky vanillin oak drawing it all together. There’s real grunt here, real presence
