Tasting Note:

Blackjack Vineyards is situated on an easterly slope, in the old Apple and Pear growing district of the Harcourt Valley on the foothills of Mt. Alexander. Although just south of Bendigo, the climate is considerably cooler, and normally blessed with “Indian Summer” autumns – cool night and warm clear day- allowing the grapes to slowly ripen. The soil is mostly very old, and not overly fertile, granitic soils. The vineyard is hand-pruned and hand-harvested. The Shiraz block was planted in 1988.

The Wine

Deep dark red with crimson flashes at the edge. Aromas of blood plums, blackberries and licorice all combined with baking spices and spicy oak. A cascade of dark berry, spice and fine oak flavours push long on the medium to full bodied palate.

Rich and satisfying this is a gorgeous come hither, classic Shiraz that calls the taster back for yet another exquisite sip.

Perfect with rare, barbecued fillet steak with a red wine sauce.

Jeni Port - Halliday Wine Companion

The '24s from Blackjack are looking mighty smart, led by its signature shiraz that seamlessly glides across the palate. No angles here, just a fluid, elegant and even wine. Bright spice from fruit and oak join black berries and plum, earth, chocolate and vanilla on nicely fitted, even tannins. There's a wealth of flavour here, delivered with some style. With this kind of balance already on show, expect some serious ageing potential.
